MyDhaba's Taste-Test: Mushroom kofta curry

We were also taste-testing one of Vinu's favourite curries from the cookbooks today. Mushrooms are very exotic, delicious, and very nutritious addition to our everyday diet. We found it as a very versatile and adaptable to any recipe. Here is how she made the kofta curry with mushroom, peas, and cauliflower.

Mushroom kofta curry recipe

Ingredients:
For Koftas,
Mushrooms - 1/2 kg, cut into small pieces
Gram flour - 1/2 cup
Red chilli powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Green chillies - 5, medium-sized
Coriander powder - 1/2 teaspooon
Salt - 1-1/4 teaspoon
Oil - for frying

For curry,
Cauliflower - 1/2 cup, flowerettes
Green peas - 1/4 cup, boiled
Carrot - 1/4 cup, diced small
Onions - 3, small, chopped
Tomatoes - 5, small, chopped
Coriander leaves - a bunch
Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
Green chillies - 2, sliced into halves
Red chilli powder - 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
Salt - 1 teaspoon or adjusted to taste
Garam masala powder - 1 teaspoon

Method: Cook mushrooms and drain off the water. Cool and add the gram flour, chilli powder, green chillies, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and make into medium-sized balls. Deep fry in oil till golden brown and keep aside. Fry the onions and green chillies in oil and add about 4 cups of water. Put in chopped tomatoes, boiled peas, carrot and cauliflower, coriander leaves, salt, chilli, coriander, and turmeric powder. Mix well and simmer until the gravy thickens. Add one more cup of water and put in the mushroom koftas and cook till soft. Add finally the garam masala powder.

MyDhaba's taste-test verdict: Well, a thumb's up from all of us. Mildly spicy. Tasty. It's all good overall. We will go for it once again when we have the next batch of mushrooms in hand.

  6. I love this idea. People who dont like mushroom can start with this. The spices should take care of that. Looks so much like meatballs, so i might serve this with sphagetti :) Thx for the recipe!

VK, what are you doing!!?? :)
I don't know that I have ever mentioned it to you on your blog, but you're partially responsible for getting me hooked on *real* Indian food. Way back when, 2 yrs or more, and I used to devour the recipes here. There was a little lull -- now I know what you meant when you said 'back into the kitchen'! Mushroom koftas... tomato-yogurt pachadi... etc etc yum yum!

Welcome back -- I hope I can keep up! :)

  8. Thanks folks. Lovely feedback. Oh yes, there was a little lull in our routine posting, got sidetracked doing so many other stuff that mattered during the interim. Time just flies swiftly... so soon My Dhaba completed 2 years of blogging experience. Thanks for being in touch with us thus far. You can certainly look forward to quite a few more traditional and authentic recipes here. Cheers!
